The project
I’m leaving comfortable Norway for a year to live in a van, -while writing about festival-culture in the United States. A great part of the challenge would be to find out how the different festivals work on the inside -administratively, practical administration, economically and so on. The differences in how festivals fight to survive in a world and a country that has so much to offer. I also have a great interest in discovering more about the people we never see or hear -the people that always make sure that the shows must go on!
I’m leaving comfortable Norway for a year to live in a van, -while writing about festival-culture in the United States.
As for the trip it self, there’s two choices. Either by a van and travel as a van-dweller, or be a backpacker, sleeping in hostels and maybe trying out couch-surfing. For now the choice is living in a van. I believe van-dwelling is a great way to experience a country and still actually having some place to call home.
My travel route will be decided by the dates and the places of the festivals that I wish to visit -which also means that I can’t decide on anything until all the dates for the festivals of 2011 are confirmed.
The procject TimeToMoveOn is for me a great way to kill two birds with one stone, having the opportunity to get experience within my line of study/work, and also getting a chance to travel solo, seeing other parts of the world than Europe.
The reason for choosing the U.S is pretty simple: I speak the language, there are hundereds and mabye thousends of festivals to contact and discover (selecting a few is going to be difficult), and there are a couple of places that I’ve always wanted to visit such as the town of New Orleans and the Burning man festival held in the Black Rock Desert, Nevada.
