Time To Move On

Karoland.org

Hi and welcome to my website

About me:

KaroI’m a 27 year old student living in Norway, a small but beautiful country in northern Europe. I’ve been studying within different higher education programmes the past years, and latest a BA in Cultural Administration at Telemark university college, finishing spring 2010. The future has been a bit confusing to think of, but working with youth, music and culture in some way would definitely be the way to go for me. I do sing myself, but I have a deadly stage fright, so I’ve always left the singing solo on stage to others. I have spend some years with my own singing teacher though, and my childhood consisted of singing in several choirs in between playing team sports and dancing. I have a feeling that rhythm and the love for music comes from my grandfather, he was a violin/fiddle-player who played Norwegian folk music. For the fun of it -here’s one of his compositions, with him self on the string.

“As far as my trip goes -if all the people around me had to listen to me every time I got a new thought or found a new discovery, well -let’s just say that I easily could have filled up a new set of extras for a remake of Cuckoo’s Nest.”

For a couple of years now life has been a bit strange, I new that my education programme was just what I wanted -but still I hadn’t figured what I really wanted with the rest of my life.  And for quite a while I didn’t know what to do about it either. Should I go somewhere, take a year traveling? Well, my mind told me that I don’t have the time to travel as a “lazy”, sun loving, backpacker, travel just to travel -the years are going by faster than I can turn my head. I’m restless and I need experience -I need to work.

So I came up with this idea that I fell in love with -you can read about The Challenge -my life on the move here. I’s not the easy way out for sure, but this is what I’m going for – a year of traveling alone in the United States. When and how? Those aren’t questions that I have the answer to just yet, but the imaginary date is somewhere between new years and February 2011. I’m going to spill my guts here on the website, trying to create a plan for the trip -and for my life. Every turn around the next corner, every new idea, every defeat -can I reach my goal?

Why this blog?

Well, I needed a place all of my own. A place to spill my guts without bothering friends and family to much with flying pigs and pink elephants. Karoland.org – is merely a way to archive my “the project-part” of the brain somewhere besides the inside of my skull!

As far as my trip goes -if all the people around me had to listen to me every time I got a new thought or found a new discovery, well -let’s just say that I easily could have filled up a new set of extras for a remake of Cuckoo’s Nest.

So i guess this blog is for:

  • Writing about my progress in life -and my plans towards reaching my goal.
  • My thoughts on how to travel, what to travel with (gear&gadgets), where to go, what to do and of course which festivals to visit.
  • Some of my thoughts on cultural differences and likenesses, dissemination of culture and cultural administration.
  • This site will also work as a collector site for useful links and tips regarding festivals and traveling in North-America.
  • When I finally leave for the States you will be able to follow me and  the people I meet along the way.

I know there are a lot of blogs out there, mine not so different from them all. But hopefully it might be useful for others or perhaps even inspirational and entertaining.

Please feel free to leave a comment and share your experiences and thoughts, traveler or not!

I’m also always available for contact at my sites e-mail address: karo@karoland.org

With the best of wishes
